We used to say with my dear friends Luz and Delia, that we were three typical daughters of Europe, as we were born and raised there, just like the daughters behind us at the Erechtheion. Like this photo of us, taken some years ago, (probably in 2015) in front of the Caryatids, a reminder of our happy times together, but also as a statement about the daughter missing in Great Britain.
My friends, as true Europeans and philhellenes, were outraged by this absence, as well as the absence of the other sculptures of Parthenon (Elgin Marbles).
Luz, Spanish, Delia, German, and I, Greek, used to say, every time we met in Athens, that the Eurogroup was meeting, and without joking, we were actually doing something like that,on a cultural level.
Our meetings continued by phone and online during the two years of the pandemic, as my friend’s health deteriorated while she struggled with her incurable disease and went in and out of the hospital in Heidelberg ,until September 2022 when she passed away.
However, the good moments of our Eurogroup meetings and our conversations remain, which I regularly refer to, helping me to continue our dialogue.
