Kalamos, is a mountainous island, close to Lefkada and the mainland. Dense pine forests cloak the island, their scent mingling with the fresh sea air. Jagged peaks pierce the sky, the highest reaching over 750 meters. Small coves scattered along the coastline offer secluded havens with crystal-clear waters. The island’s tranquility extends to its two main settlements – Kalamos, the port village, and Episkopi. The abandoned village of Kefali, with its Venetian name Porto Leone, speaks of a bygone era with ruins of a 13th-century castle, a testament to the island’s strategic importance in centuries past.
