Petralona Cave is one of Europe’s most impressive and important caves thanks to its wealth of fossils. Formed around 1 million years ago, it became famous for the discovery of a 700.000 years old skull, which is considered one of the earliest human findings in Europe. Worth seeing:

  • The “Great Hall” has huge stalagmites in white coral. The “Hall of Roots” has fine roots above the cave having pierced the roof and formed a net.
  • The part named “cemetery of Giants”, where 14 different types of animal bones were found.

Shut for the public due to undergoing construction work, it is now ready to welcome you again to its spectacular world!
