The Axios River, originating in North Macedonia and stretching 388 kilometers (76 kilometers in Greece), flows through Central Macedonia, including the Paionia region near the Greek-North Macedonian border. This area, encompassing towns like Polykastro, Axioupoli, and Idomeni and the village of Mikro Dasos, serves as a gateway to the river’s natural attractions.

Activities include hiking along the European Hiking Path E6 to spots like Tsigganas Gorge. Further south, the Axios Delta National Park, a Ramsar Wetland, is renowned for its biodiversity, supporting over 270 bird species, wild horses, and water buffalo, and providing opportunities for birdwatching, fishing, and sightseeing.
